Monthly Makers Loppis / Marbled Tray

I was going to make a collage for this months Monthly Makers-theme. The theme is “thrift shop”, if you didn’t know, and I was going to use old books and magazines to make something. And then I spent one day playing with paint with my sister, and making a collage suddenly felt like the most boring thing ever.

I didn’t want to stop experimenting with paint, and then Mikaela was just like “just buy something in a thrift shop and paint on it?”. Which was – like most brilliant solutions are – kind of simple and obvious. But still brilliant, so thanks Mikaela!!
So I went over to the thrift shop across the street to find something to pour paint, and came home with three different trays. One of them was metal so I didn’t really believe it was gonna work out that well with acrylic paint (it didn’t) and the second one was some kind of varnished plastic that the paint didn’t stick to either. Luckily the third one I found was wooden, and actually kind of nice already! I really like the shape + size! So I painted it dark green/blue to give it a base. (Was so into creating that I forgot to take pictures of everything. Also it was dark.)And I poured and tilted and poured and tilted until it looked something like this. So I left it to dry for like 2-3 days. (There was a lot of paint on it!)  Et voilà! It has a really nice marbled pattern and kind of looks like it’s made of malachite or something! Also it’s the perfect size for me to store my glasses on!

So that was my creation for this month! Hope you like it!
